A FREE online English speaking club with a British native speaker
Let's look at what a Speaking Club is
Join other people around the world and practise speaking English for FREE!
Firstly…
English speaking clubs are a place for you to use your spoken English. It's the main purpose of a speaking club. Simple, right?
Basically, a group of people meet in one place or online and have a chat in English. At OESC, there are three main ways to take part:
- Free hosted clubs – a British native speaker welcomes the group, introduces the topic and guides the conversation. These usually take place on Zoom, sometimes use our browser classroom and have a maximum of 8 people.
- Self-run clubs – up to 6 people follow the material in our browser-based classroom without a teacher in the room. One person controls the pace, but everyone shares responsibility for keeping the conversation moving.
- Premium hosted clubs – a native English speaker hosts a Zoom conversation for no more than 4 people, giving each person more time to speak.
For example, your host may ask you if you prefer Nike or Adidas clothing, and from this you will give your opinions, experiences and other thoughts. Someone (or the host) will probably pick up on something you say and ask you follow-up questions to help you expand on your answers.

Secondly…
They are a place to meet people. Speaking clubs are a social thing as well as a chance to practise your spoken English.
It is not uncommon to find English native speakers at English speaking clubs because it's a good chance for them to meet foreigners, exchange cultural differences and traditions, as well as help with the English learning process.
As our English speaking club is online, it's likely you will be able to talk and meet other people from different countries and cultures. And if you do have someone in the speaking club from your country, they'll probably be from another city.
One thing is for sure: everyone who attends a speaking club will want to speak English, so you don't need to feel strange not speaking Ukrainian, Russian, Italian, Polish, Czech, Romanian, etc. to someone born in the same country as you.
Thirdly…
Speaking clubs are a place for you to be free.
You might worry about making mistakes, but don't. A speaking club is a time for you to freely use your English. You don't have to worry about doing any exercises or picking up a pen. A speaking club is all about speaking and exercising your English speaking skills.
If you have never been to an English speaking club before, then it might feel strange at first, but you will soon get into the flow of things and understand why English speaking clubs are a great addition to your English language learning.
Lastly…
Speaking clubs should always be fun and enjoyable. If you don't enjoy going to a speaking club: STOP. Try to find another one if the one you go to isn't enjoyable.
