A great deal of Slovak working English happens at the edge of a technical conversation — a supplier call, a customer audit, a visiting engineer, a video meeting with a parent company in Germany or Korea. Those are exactly the situations where preparation helps least, because nobody can predict what the other person will ask.
Bratislava has a substantial shared-services and business-process sector, with people supporting clients across Europe in English every day. Košice has built a genuine technology scene of its own. Between them and the automotive plants that anchor much of the economy, the country has a large population of professionals whose English is good on paper and underused out loud.
Clubs run in groups of up to six on Zoom, which means a company can combine people from Bratislava, Žilina and Košice in one session without anyone leaving their desk.

Teams handling finance, HR or customer operations for clients in several countries. Their written English is strong; the difficulty is the live call where a customer is impatient and the script has run out.
Technology in Košice and beyond
A growing development and IT-services sector working with clients abroad. Same pattern as elsewhere: fluent reading, confident writing, and much less experience of speaking without time to think.
Schools and universities
Small groups change what a Slovak classroom can offer
English is the dominant foreign language in Slovak schools and the usual choice at maturita. As everywhere, the constraint on speaking is class size rather than teaching quality — thirty students and a fixed timetable leave very little room for sustained conversation.
A club of six students for a full hour is a structurally different thing. Every student talks properly, the host can push individuals a little further, and because nothing is marked the students who normally stay silent tend to be the ones who change most over a term.
Slovak universities participate heavily in Erasmus, and students heading abroad need conversational and social English at least as much as academic English. That is the register the clubs work in.

Slovakia is one hour ahead of the UK throughout the year, so scheduling is simple and stays stable when the clocks change. Most Slovak groups take a slot between 16:00 and 19:00 local time.

Can you run sessions for shift workers?
Within reason, yes. Because the club is online and only an hour offset from the UK, morning and early-afternoon slots are both possible. Tell us the shift pattern and we will find something that does not require anyone to stay late unpaid.
Our staff speak Slovak, Czech and some Hungarian. Does a mixed group work?
It works well, and often better than a single-language group. The moment the shared language is English rather than a language everyone has in common, the conversation stops slipping back.
Do you cover technical vocabulary?
Some, if you ask. But most companies find the constraint is not technical vocabulary — engineers usually know their field's English better than the host does — it is everything around it.
How big is a group?
Six people maximum. Larger groups look better value until you divide the hour by the number of people in it — at ten or twelve, the quieter half stops speaking altogether.
What happens if someone misses a week?
Nothing. Each club is self-contained, there is no homework and nothing to catch up on, so an absence does not leave anyone behind.
