Join other people around the world and practise speaking English for FREE!
This type of speaking club known as 'The BIG FREE English Speaking Club" is a little different from the traditional-topic-based speaking club that you might have attended. But, how I hear you ask yourself....
There is no host directing the conversation and asking the questions, but don't worry, you will still be guided. In this speaking club you will be paired with someone for around 10 minutes before moving onto a new partner, so you'll have lots of opportunities to speak to different people.
What is the topic? Well, the topic is called Questions 1-2-1 and as you will be speaking to many different people in a short space of time, it's the perfect chance to practise asking questions and getting to know the person you're talking to. Asking questions is a very important skill and I believe the most common ones should always be learnt as expressions.
What questions should I ask? That's up to you. It would be a good idea before the speaking club to think of 10 good interesting questions you'd like to ask someone. For example you could ask things like... If you could be an animal for a day, what would you be? What do you think about ChatGPT? Why do you think football is popular? Don't worry if you can't think of any questions, there will be questions and question prompts on the screen to help you with asking. Keep in mind when answering, try not to give a simple yes or no or cat or dog answer. A brief explanation of your answer after you give it is a good idea. Also, try not to go on a super-monologue sending your peer asleep. Listen to your partner and ask a follow up question. Try to make it as natural as possible.
This speaking club will last for 60 minutes, but this doesn't mean you will be kicked off the call after 60 minutes, you will be allowed to stay and chat with the others who wish to stay in the main room.
The next Big FREE English Speaking Club is on: 1st November 6PM - London time
This speaking club is open to anyone who is pre-Intermediate and higher. You will try to be grouped with a similar level.
